It's Volunteers' week - a huge thank you to all our fabulous Volunteers not just this week but every week of the year!
Thanks so much to Rita for bringing the beautiful Cully to see the clients at Jubilee Day Centre last week. Cully is not even a year old but behaved so well and calmly. Our clients love to see their canine friends.
A Fantastic time was had by all during our Liberation Day celebrations at both Day Centres with even a visit from the Little Buttons Nursery colouring Guernsey flags with our clients.
Congratulations to all our Volunteers from many different GVS projects who received Long Service Awards, presented by our Patron, Lady Corder last week at Government House. Thank you ALL so much for many years of helping our community through GVS
With grateful thanks to Ocorian who donated the Easter eggs for our Clients at Jubilee. They were very much appreciated and enjoyed by all.......
Thanks so much to our wonderful Ruth Robinson for organising a Virtual Scavenger Hunt to raise funds for GVS during the lockdown. It was a huge success, enjoyed by all. Thank you Ruth and to everyone who supported the event.
Here is Ruth's report -
"Due to social distancing, our usual fundraising activities have been put on hold; so we held a Virtual Scavenger hunt.
Instead of collecting items, hunters took photos and entrants came from far and wide, including Australia and New Zealand. Participants had fun and team Sadler Star won after collecting the most bonus points for imaginative photos. The standard was amazing. A Guern in New Zealand won the prize for the entry from furthest away and Lucy (aged 7) from Rainbow Pros won the Logo competition.
Here are some of the fantastic photos which were sent in."
Our Bumper Easter Raffle was abruptly halted by Covid19 and the subsequent lockdown BUT in true GVS spirit, this has not stopped our Jubilee Day Centre Manager, Josie continuing to try to raise funds. She says -
"We were very grateful that Butterfield Bank and HSBC stepped in and helped us to sell raffle tickets once the Day Centre was closed so that we were still able to raise some money. They have also won some prizes and collected them from outside the porch here at Jubilee. The prizes won by our clients will be delivered to them during this week."
As you can see, we really are trying to "carry on regardless" but within the social distancing rules. It is not easy but we continue to deliver Meals on Wheels, keep in touch with our volunteers and clients and we are so looking forward to welcoming them all back to the Day Centres when it is safe to do so. Stay safe and well everyone.
