Many people find giving a small amount regularly is the ideal way for them to support a charity. It is also a great help to GVS to know that we are receiving regular financial support which we can rely on to carry on providing our services in Guernsey and Alderney for many years to come. Other Ways to Donate

Donate in memory

Consider celebrating the life of a friend or loved one with a donation in their memory. This can be a very positive way of creating a tribute to your loved ones.

Donations collected at a funeral

If you prefer not to have flowers at a funeral, donations can often be collected for a charity and perhaps you could consider GVS as a beneficiary.

Donations in lieu of gifts or Christmas cards

Perhaps you no longer wish to receive presents for birthdays, Christmas, or special occasions. Why not ask instead for donations from your family and friends to go to GVS. This will help us continue our work within the community and help ease isolation amongst older people.

Tax relief for Guernsey registered charities

If an individual (i.e., not a company) makes a donation or donations to GVS (or another Guernsey Registered Charity), of at least £500 and not exceeding £5,000 in a calendar year, the donation is deemed to have been made to the charity net of income tax. Providing the individual can complete a declaration in the form and manner required by the Director of Income Tax, the donation is grossed up and a repayment of the income tax is made to the charity.

For example, if the individual donates £1,000 to the GVS and completes the appropriate declaration, the charity is treated as having received the sum of £1,000 net of tax which gives the equivalent gross donation of £1,250 (i.e., £1,000 X 100/80). The charity would then claim a repayment from the Director of Income Tax in the sum of £250 (i.e. £1,250 - £1,000).

Leave a gift in your will

These days people are living to an older age than before, and this trend is likely to continue in the future – increasing the challenges faced in supporting older people within our community. Perhaps you or one of your relations or friends have benefitted from Meals on Wheels or one of our Social Clubs in the past. Leaving a gift to GVS in your will would help our work considerably and help maintain our services in the future.

giving.gg is a service provided to members of the Association of Guernsey Charities. The website was built by volunteers and the platform is run by volunteers, so that as much as possible of what you donate gets to your chosen charity. In fact, the only charges we hope to have to make will be those of payment services providers (in our case PayPal and Barclays ePDQ). And if you pledge your donation on www.giving.gg and then pay using your own e-banking service, there will probably be nothing at all deducted from your donation, it will go to the GVS in full.
